Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport announced Tuesday that a new nonstop flight will link the Crescent City to Florida's Emerald Coast.

Low-cost carrier Allegiant will begin twice-weekly flights between MSY and Punta Gorda, Florida airport (PGD) starting November 21.

"We are thrilled that Allegiant is offering nonstop service to Punta Gorda — a brand new destination from New Orleans Airport," said New Orleans Aviation Director Kevin Dolliole.  "This new flight is a positive indication of Allegiant's commitment to growth in New Orleans."

"By adding Punta Gorda, we're offering travelers more access to Southwest Florida's sunny vacation destinations and strengthening our presence in the region," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer.

The airline said it would celebrate the new service with initial one-way fares as low as $49.
