After all twelve New Orleans Criminal Court judges recused themselves from the Liz Murrill case, the Louisiana Supreme Court has appointed a replacement.
WWL-TV reports the state's high court appointed retired judge Robert Chaisson to oversee the case.
That case is currently on hold, after the state supreme court stayed the indictment against the Louisiana Attorney General.
A grand jury indicted Murrill earlier this month on 16 felony counts: eight of malfeasance in office, and eight felony counts of intimidation and retaliation.
The charges say Murrill broke the law by telling several New Orleans elected officials that they could be removed from office for appointing Calvin Johnson as Orleans Parish Clerk of Court and calling for a special election for the position, after the state law consolidating the city's two clerk's offices went into effect.
