New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced that Phase 3.3 of coronavirus mitigation will begin Wednesday.
Mayor Cantrell says Hurricane Zeta and Halloween caused them to push the launch of this phase back. But city heath officials say testing data still look good, and the public health system is in good shape. She says a lot of that is due to the people of New Orleans acting responsibly.
"We want to continue to encourage our people to stay the line, go the long haul, because it really has reflected in our ability to be healthier," said Cantrell, " but also to get our businesses back on-- back on track."
Bars will be allowed to welcome patron back indoors, at 25 percent of maximum occupancy under existing fire codes, up to 50 people. Table service only will be permitted, and social distancing of six feet will be required.
The new phase will also allow an increase in capacity for outdoor gatherings, and for timed, seated events like at movie theaters.
