The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has lifted the precautionary boil advisory prompted by a water main break Monday morning.

The four-foot wide high pressure water pipe broke underneath S. Claiborne Ave. and Louisiana Ave. before dawn Monday, sending water cascading through the streets.

A loss of water pressure forced many schools to close Monday and today, and led to the city cautioning residents to boil water before consuming it until tests could prove no contaminants got into the water supply.

The utility cautioned that some customers may experience lower-than-normal water pressure while work continues to repair the break.
