The New Orleans City Council meets today and will vote to override Mayor LaToya Cantrell's veto of next year's budget.
Mayor Cantrell says she vetoed the budget because she thought the measured cuts to deal with a revenue shortfall were irresponsible, but political analyst Clancy DuBos says it seems personal.
"You know, she just took down Moreno's banners from Gallier Hall, connected to the inauguration," said DuBos. "And the veto, it's just a measure of spite and pettiness."
DuBos says Cantrell seems determined to end her term on petty terms.
"It's a shame because the citizens and the city deserve better, but she's not giving it to them," DuBos said. "But if you listen to here, you'd think she hung the moon and solved every problem the city had, but clearly she hasn't."
Today's override may be a foregone conclusion: five votes are needed to override the veto, and the budget passed unanimously.
