The New Orleans City Council holds a special meeting at 9 a.m. to consider regulations for data centers in the city.

Plans to build a data center near I-10 and Read Blvd. have generated pushback not just from neighbors, but from the highest office in city hall.

"I just want to say that I am opposed to this, and the first I even heard about it was in a newspaper article," Mayor Helena Moreno said on her Instagram page. "So I'm working in collaboration with the New Orleans City council to prevent projects like this happening in our neighborhoods."

The council will consider directing the planning commission to hold a public hearing on establishing new zoning rules that would prohibit approving data centers for a period of one year.

MS Solar Grid Data file documents with the city's Department of Safety and Permits seeking to build the data center on two pieces of property off of I-10 at Read.
