The New Orleans City Council meets today at 10 am to discuss Friday's jail escape.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is set to appear before the council.
Councilmember Joe Giarrusso, leader of the budget committee, said the sheriff has the money to address needs at the jail, so why has that not happened?
"The sheriff has a $14 million fund balance right now and has a millage," Giarrusso told WWL-TV. "You can bond out against those for capital needs that doesn't involve the city at all."
Giarrusso says a full, transparent accounting is needed to restore public trust.
Representatives from NOPD, NOHSEP, the city's 911 commission, and Louisiana State Police will also be in attendance.
The meeting will take place at New Orleans City Hall, but citizens can also view the live stream on the council's website. You can view the meeting agenda and submit a public comment here.
