The suspect who engaged the New Orleans Police Department's SWAT Unit in a four-hour standoff surrendered peacefully, authorities say, after his mother went to the home and encouraged him to give himself up.
NOPD officials say they were called just before 11 p.m. Tuesday about a domestic battery at the home on Newcastle Street near Curran Road. Police say the suspect refused to leave the house and, just after 4 a.m. Wednesday, barricaded himself inside the home.
According to investigators, the victim escaped the home safely before the standoff began.
SWAT officials say the man had multiple weapons with him inside the home.
No word on what charges the suspect will face.
