A New Orleans Civil District Court judge Tuesday granted a preliminary injunction against Louisiana State Police sweeps of homeless encampments.
The court case is a result of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry's efforts to remove homeless people from parts of downtown New Orleans prior to big events.
The ruling still allows them to happen, but local laws allowing for proper notification must be followed.
That means written notice must be posted in the areas to be swept at least 24 hours in advance, with the time and date removals are to begin included.
The state must also avoid disposing of or destroying anyone's personal property without due process.
