New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno says she has had it with how the Sewerage and Water Board has handled the Decatur Street project.
"I'm just going to step in and take it all over," Moreno said Sunday after meeting with business owners on the four-block stretch of Decatur in the lower French Quarter.
Those blocks have been largely inaccessible for months while the Sewerage and Water Board dug up the street to make improvements.
Several businesses have gone out of business, citing lost income because of the lengthy street closure.
"When it comes to the legislation that the city can take more control of the Sewerage and Water Board, that goes into effect August first," said Moreno. The very first meetings of a working group, so we are prepared for August 1, start this upcoming week."
