After deep cuts in the current budget, what does next year's look like?
"They're still recovering from a cash-flow perspective," said Louisiana Legislative Auditor Mike Waguespack.
Waguespack says the city of New Orleans has done great work getting its finances organized, considering where it started the year, and now are in much better shape.
"They're probably sitting on about $167 million fund balance. That's not all cash, but that's a fund balance for accounting purposes," said Waguespack. "Now the challenge is to preserve that and to make sure we right-size the city with further cuts or anticipated revenue enhancement measures."
The city's revenue is still less than it used to be. Waguespack said with a smaller population, New Orleans can right-size its expenditures and deliver the best it can for its taxpayers.
