New Orleans Police say a driver hit a woman at the foot of the Danziger Bridge around 7:30 this morning.
“An adult female victim was struck by a vehicle at the location. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene,” according to NOPD Public Affairs.
EMS took the woman to a local hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
"Through investigation, it was determined that the victim was walking across the westbound lanes of Chef Menteur Highway when an unknown vehicle traveling in the far left westbound lane struck the victim."
Investigators blocked the bridge heading from New Orleans East toward Gentilly to gather evidence. It has since reopened.
