The New Orleans Police Department today said it has re-booked a woman on murder charges for an infant's death Saturday. Keriaon Smith faces second-degree murder.
The six-month-old boy was found unresponsive at a residence in the 1500 block of St. Louis St. on March 5.
"At about 12:09 p.m. on March 5, the infant was found unresponsive while in the care of a family friend later identified as Smith," said police. "The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased."
Police arrested Smith that day on charges of second degree cruelty to a juvenile. When autopsy results determined the child's death to be a homicide, police re-arrested Smith for murder.
