New Orleans Police and other local law enforcement say there is a "street takeover" event planned for New Orleans in the near future, and they want residents, and potential participants, to know that they will be there.
"Our message is clear to you, whether you are participants, whether you are an organizer, or whether you're there as a spectator, just watching: don't get caught up in this net," warned NOPD Assistant Superintendent Hans Ganthier.
Louisiana State Police Superintendent Frank Besson said these events, which involve participants blocking streets for illegal racing, burnouts, and other vehicle stunts, are organized and attended by out-of-towners.
"To anybody that comes to this city and tries to initiate any kind of street takeover: we will catch you, we will arrest you, and we will seize your vehicle," said Besson.
Orleans Sheriff Michelle Woodfork said her deputies will be on hand to help make the trip to jail for lawbreakers go even faster.
"We'll be having our mobile booking bus and also transporting for whatever arrests are made during this event," she said.
