The city of New Orleans is dropping the city-wide mask mandate effective Friday. This comes after Governor John Bel Edwards decided to drop the mandate effective Wednesday for the state.
The mask mandate will remain in place for all Orleans Parish public schools, healthcare facilities, and public transportation. A separate report from Nola.com said masks would not be required to enter the Superdome Sunday for the game against the Bucs.
"The indoor mask mandate that was in place over the past several months helped us reduce the surge in cases we saw due to the Delta variant," said Dr. Jennifer Avegno, Director of NOHD. "Even though the numbers are currently low, we must remind our residents that this pandemic is not over and remains dangerous for all that may come in contact with the virus."
New Orleans’ vaccine mandate will still be in effect.
This comes as the city prepares to host numerous parties and other events for Halloween weekend.
