It'll be a wet weekend in Southeast Louisiana as tropical moisture pushes into the area.
How much rain can we expect over the next few days?
"Rainfall totals we're forecasting are around three to four inches, but it's hard to get an exact amount." National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Efferson says. "It could be double that. We could be looking at six to eight inches. That's kind of, like, not your worst case scenario, but the higher end of what we're expecting out of this."
Efferson says that means flash flooding is a possibility in and around the region. He's urging anyone who will be out and about this weekend to use caution.
"A lot of people will be outside doing outdoor things and driving around the city. It doesn't take a whole lot of rain to start flooding the streets," Efferson said. "If you see water, turn around and drive the other way, please."
According to Efferson, the tropical moisture likely will produce rain through the first couple of days of next week.
"Going into early next week, it's going to be really close because there's going to be a lot of rainfall right on the coast. All it takes is the rain being 50 miles more inland. I still think there's a decent chance of some rainfall. I don't think there will be as much heavy rain going into early next week, but the rain chances are still 50-, 60-, (or) 70 percent."
