It's a big one. A major convention kicks off in New Orleans, the first of its kind in nearly two years.
“We are preparing to welcome the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which is our largest convention we’ve hosting in New Orleans since the pandemic,” says Kelly Schulz, senior vice president of Communications with New Orleans and Company.
“The American Academy of Ophthalmologist will be in New Orleans November 11th through the 15th. We will have ten thousand attendees at the Morial Convention Center and at 30 hotels around the city.”
The town will also swell well beyond the 10,000 attendees as spouses, guests, and thousands of exhibitors augmenting the conventioneer numbers.
“This is a meeting that New Orleans and Company and our hospitality partners have worked on this 2021 gathering since 2013,” Schultz says.
Landing a big convention like the American Academy of Ophthalmologists is a full effort for New Orleans and Company.
“This is what we do best. Having a relationship with these big organizations for decades,” Schulz explains. “And working with them to make sure they have a successful meeting. This is their first meeting of this size since the beginning of the pandemic.”
Expect a festive atmosphere across the city as it welcomes back one of the pillars of New Orleans’ economic platform—conventions.
