With the sights and sounds of Carnival beginning to populate the Crescent City, a new line of wine and beer products inspired by the vibe of the season and of one of its leading standard-bearers is preparing to hit shelves.
The late Blaine Kern is being honored by a new product line under the banner Mr. Mardi Gras Wine.
“Blaine lived life like it was one big party,” his widow Holly Kern said in a release announcing the venture. “Mr. Mardi Gras wine and beer perfectly embody his spirit of fun and whimsy. I can think of no better way to honor his legacy than by sharing what we created together so that now, everyone can enjoy a taste of Carnival anytime, anywhere.”
Holly, along with Blaine's son Barry Kern, will host a private tasting at Mardi Gras World on Thursday, February 10.
The lineup of offerings includes wines called Strawberry Red Blend, described as “a bold red wine blended with the juicy sweetness and fragrance of strawberries,” and Strawberry White Blend, “a crisp, elegant white wine with the aroma and sweetness of fresh fruit.”
Additionally, a beer line called Jester Beers will offer India Pale Ale “with fruity, piney notes that burst with hop flavor and a tinge of bitterness” and a Lager “with light, crisp flavors, a rich golden hue and a mellow, smooth finish.”
“My father was a visionary who inspired others through his creativity and imagination,” said Barry Kern, CEO and President of Kern Studios and Mardi Gras World, in the release. “Everyone knew him as Mr. Mardi Gras because of his relentless passion for Carnival. I know he’d be thrilled that we’re keeping the party going in his honor.”
