President Biden continues to welcome anyone across the U.S.-Mexican border. A former top ranking U.S. Border Patrol officer is speaking out against President Biden’s open border policies. I spoke with Fred Lucus of the Daily Signal about talks he’s had with U.S Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott. After nearly 30 years with the U.S. Border Patrol, it appears Scott was let go because his thoughts on border security did not match Biden's.
What is Scott’s chief concern as to what’s going on at the border right now?
Quite simply, Rodney Scott thinks what's happening right now is just not sustainable. He didn't let his views be known on the outside, but he did during internal discussions with Department of Homeland Security staff and said that these open border policies aren’t going to work. A lot of that DHS staff is made up of Biden political appointees. Eventually Biden asked Scott if his policy would work in order to get his own people in charge of the border patrol.
There seems to be a complete and total disregard for public safety. Does the Biden administration really not care about the crimes illegal immigrants are committing?
Immigration is just a sub-component of border security. Thousands of people are getting away every day that are bringing in fentanyl, human trafficking and so forth… I think Democrats often want to distract from the crimes at the border and just to say, what about the DACA kids?
There's no criteria considered on whether or not you're going to go to jail as to the impact on your family, so why should they be the beneficiary of that? If you're a U.S. citizen, there's no consideration given.
There were so many things that he just undid because they were Trump policies. I think the biggest was the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, which they're going to have to go back to because of a court order, but it's going to be the Biden administration that's in charge of how they implement that court order - and that’s problematic.
It seems as though we are setting up a duplicative criminal justice system in this country, one in which we deal with illegal aliens in one way and citizens in another way. If you’re a citizen, you get treated much more harshly than if you're an illegal alien.
Yeah, that’s what we're seeing. A lot of it comes back to the Biden administration reflexively wanting to do the opposite of what the Trump administration did, even if that is to their own detriment.
