Newell: Can we believe Trump when he claims opposition to 'Project 2025'?

As the conservative policies outlined in the text dubbed “Project 2025” continue to be debated publicly by politicians on both sides, the Democrats have continued to point out that some of the authors of that work were closely tied to Donald Trump during his previous stint as President.

So is Trump to be believed when he claims an ideological break from some of those policies? Could a second Presidential term for Trump come and go without his support for Project 2025?


WWL’s Newell Normand stated his opinion on the matter comes from his own personal experience of not always agreeing with those you work closely with, citing his working relationship with his predecessor as Jefferson Parish Sheriff, Harry Lee.

“We had vastly different thoughts on a whole host of issues,” Normand said. “He was the boss, and I understood that. My role was to support his platform on law enforcement. And if I could not find the space in order to do that, then I owed it to him and I owed it to the public to resign. But it did not mean that… when tragically, former Sheriff Harry Lee passed, that the positions that I espouse should have been imputed to him. We were two independent thinking individuals that had vastly different life experiences.”
