Remember the story of the Uber Eats driver in Washington DC that got carjacked by two juveniles with a stun gun? Well, they got sentenced to six years. They got six years, because the DA didn't have the guts to charge them as adults, so they get away with six years. Of course, the victim’s family is completely and totally astonished by this. They can't believe that they lost their loved one, and the perpetrator’s accountability is a six year term sentence.
This is what we call restorative justice? Who's being restored by this? Not the victim's family. They lost their breadwinner, they lost their loved one. How do we restore them? Who's bringing them back to the point where they were before these two criminal thugs entered a vehicle with a stun gun and dragged the driver down the street, wrecked the car and killed him? Nobody.
Now here at home, we have a 15 year old arrested for a 10 hour crime spree this weekend. It'll be interesting to see whether or not this individual is worthy of being charged as an adult. After all, he's only charged with three counts of armed robbery, two counts of simple kidnapping, one count of aggravated battery, and one count of armed carjacking. I wonder how restorative justice works with this individual? What programs is this criminal thug worthy of at age 15? How much time should we give them after he wreaked havoc on so many different people's lives on Saturday, June 5th and Sunday, June 6th in that 10 hour period. Thankfully the NOPD was able to get their hands on this little knucklehead. He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on all of these counts. So we wait with bated breath to see whether or not our own District Attorney will do the right thing and charge this individual as an adult.
It'll be interesting to see whether or not anyone calls anyone out on any of these issues. It’s become a very heated topic in the New York mayoral race. AOC has picked a candidate who wants to defund the police department in New York to the tune of about a billion dollars. Meanwhile, she's living in a nice area of Brooklyn that has private security. Now she claims that she stopped participating in the payment of same. However, the person she lives with has privately and secretly been paying the dues because he felt so strongly about it because he actually had been mugged 20 years ago and he is still dealing with the aftermath of that mugging. And so he feels compelled to continue to pay the fee. Can you believe the hypocrisy here? It’s absolutely incredible. Who's going to suffer? The very same folks that they profess to be protecting. It’s an absolute joke.
How do we allow ourselves to be bamboozled by these fools? I've said it before, and I'll say it again - right now is when your voice can be heard. We're in the midst of an election. Folks are contemplating as to whether or not they are going to run. Do you want to let these folks run unopposed, or do you think that it might be just a little bit better to create a situation where they have to stand up and actually take a position on some of these topics, and answer the tough questions instead of just engaging as soundbite politicians?
