Next stop for Mayor Cantrell: Buenos Aires

Next stop for Mayor Cantrell: Buenos Aires
WWL

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell will jet off to a conference in Bueno Aires, Argentina later this week as part of a climate conference.

The trip represents the second overseas venture scant weeks and her fourth since June.

The Mayor recently returned from a trip to a short conference in Amsterdam to take part in a Bloomberg CityLab Conference and Mayors Innovation Studio.

The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reports the Mayor previously travelled to France and Switzerland over the summer as she took part in signing sister city agreements.

These trips and her insistence on flying in first class, while her security detail sat in coach, ultimately lead to the recall effort which is currently underway.

As a concession, the Mayor cancelled a trip to Singapore, but now it appears her jet setting ways are back on.

Cantrell has been criticized for flying first class on the City’s dime, and fanned the flames even more when saying she was entitled to fly first class for security reason saying the city should pay for the upgrades.  She ultimately vowed to reimburse the city after the City Attorney found she’d violated policy.  Despite this, she has not said when the city will be paid back.

The C-40 Mayors Summit is another even sponsored by Bloomberg and Cantrell is one of 41 other mayors in attendance.
