It was a tough holiday weekend for the football team from Nicholls State University.
First, the Colonels were unceremoniously dumped out of the FCS playoffs on Saturday, getting routed and shut out 35-0 by Southern Illinois.
Then, adding insult to injury, the team found themselves stranded in an Illinois airport for almost 24 hours.
The team’s flight was delayed multiple times as they attempted to get back home to Louisiana.
Players, coaches and other staff members had to sleep in the airport and say they were not given food, according to the team’s social media accounts.
They also say they eventually ran out of water.
The team says they were not given any information as to the reasoning for delaying their flight home multiple times. They finally arrived back home around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.
