When the coronavirus pandemic began to surge in Louisiana in March 2020, there was a very real fear that hospitals would run out of ventilators to help patients breathe.
Since then, doctors have learned new ways to treat COVID patients so they are less likely to need invasive ventilation. And with COVID hospitalizations overall at near-record low numbers, today the Louisiana Department of Health reports zero COVID patients on ventilators.
Hospitalizations increased in today's report to 59, after dropping to a record-low 38 over the weekend.
LDH reports 265 new cases today, and six more COVID deaths.
