New Orleans firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in the Fontainebleau area late Friday night.
According to a NOFD report, firefighters got a call of a two-story home in fire in the 8000 block of Nelson Street.
When firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:16 p.m., the right side and rear of the home were engulfed in flames. A second alarm was called in ten minutes later. Three people living in the home managed to escape the fire unharmed, however, three cats were trapped inside according to the report.
The report says 16 NOFD fire units carrying 37 firefighters were used to get the blaze under control at 12:14 a.m. Firefighters were unable to save two of the three cats inside.
The fire comes as NOFD Chief Tim McConnell announced earlier that day that he would be taking units out of service amid city-wide furloughs.
