The New Orleans Fire Department reports firefighters battled both the mid-day heat and two separate two-alarm fires Sunday.
"The first of the two occurred in an occupied two story commercial structure located at 3625 S. Carrollton Ave.," Captain Edwin Holmes said in a news release.
The building houses a nail salon and a mobile tinting business.
"Responding NOFD units were alerted to a working fire by the sight and smell of smoke in the area."
Fire crews had to break through the front glass doors and a metal back door to get into the building.
"A second alarm was requested as 1:50 p.m. as firefighters struggled with both the heat and the difficulty of gaining entry into the building."
It too more than an hour and a half to get the fire under control.
"There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation."
The second fire was at a two-story structure housing three townhouses at 5164 Lakeview Court in New Orleans East.

"Firefighters were faced with a large multi-unit structure already heavily involved with fire. After being informed that the residents of the only occupied unit of this two-story, three townhouse structure had exited the dwelling prior to NOFD arrival, firefighters began aggressively attacking the fire from all angles."
Responding firefighters requested a second alarm as the fire began to threaten buildings on both sides.
"Firefighters did an excellent job of containing this fire to the building of origin."
Neighbors told investigators that children had been chased from one of the unoccupied townhouses earlier in the day.
"Investigators will take that into account as they look into the cause of this incident. Unfortunately, three residents were displaced because of this fire. The American Red Cross has been requested to offer them immediate assistance with temporary housing needs."
No injuries have been reported.
