NOFD firefighters march on City Hall in fight for Living Wage

New Orleans firefighters marched to City Hall in the hope to get their attention over increasing firefighter’s pay to a living wage amount.

New Orleans Fire Department union leader Aaron Mischler says the march is the only way to get council members to take notice.

“Now is the time that we understand that we are going to have to make noise,” said Mischler. “That is the only way to get noticed.”

“We understand that the citizens of New Orleans respect us. We need to get the administration, and the city, and the ones to sign our checks...we need to get them to notice.”

In today’s city council meeting, council members discussed the city’s Living Wage ordinance, which would increase city workers, and contractors' pay equal to a living wage, however, firefighters are excluded.
