A fire at a Royal Street senior living facility led to firefighters rescuing one resident from an elevator.
New Orleans firefighters responded to the St. Christopher Inn Apartments on Royal Street just outside of the French Quarter around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
They say one resident was trapped in an elevator after it stalled between the second and third floors amid the fire. Firefighters pulled that person to safety. That person suffered no injuries.
Nobody in the senior home was injured. Firefighters ordered residents to shelter in place while they cleared smoke from the halls and staircases.
Investigators say the fire was electrical in nature, forcing authorities to shut off power to the surrounding area while firefighters battled the blaze.
