New Orleans is fresh off hosting its 11th Super Bowl, tying Miami for the honor of hosting the big game the most times. It was a successful showing for the city, with vendors and visitors raving about the hospitality of the Big Easy.
Jay Cisero, President & CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation says, “A lot went right. We had a record number of media in town, a record number of viewers. We’re very hopeful that leads to a record-breaking 12th Super Bowl being hosted in the city.”
While it was a shot in the arm for both businesses and morale in New Orleans, the Super Bowl won’t be able to return any time soon.
Cisero points out that 2029 is the next available year cities can bid to host the big game in … and that year would create direct conflict with Mardi Gras. “A lot has to go right for it to time out,” adds Cisero.
Cisero also emphasizes that conventions and other events can also conflict with hosting future Super Bowls. “The calendar can get tricky. We really have to be the right city in the right year at the right time to make it happen,” he goes on to say.
