New Orleans metro sees biggest population loss throughout U.S.

The New Orleans metropolitan area had the steepest population losses of any large metro area in the U.S. since 2020, U.S. Census numbers show.

With around 45,000 residents moving out of the seven parish area, greater New Orleans lost 4.3 percent of its population.

NOLA.com reports Orleans and Jefferson parishes lost more than 20,000 residents.

The data, from 2020 through 2023, drop metro New Orleans' population from over 1 million residents to around 962,000.
