What’s the most dangerous city in the Pelican State? According to one website’s survey, it’s not New Orleans, despite a crime rate that has skyrocketed in recent years.

Finance website WalletHub listed the state’s capital Baton Rouge as not only Louisiana’s most dangerous, but among the 10 most dangerous cities in America.

That of course doesn’t make the Big Easy any safer. It still ranked 18th nationwide for its danger.

If you’re wondering how the survey was determined, it wasn’t based on crime rates alone, but rather what it called 42 “important safety factors.”

The study evaluated 180 American cities as part of the project.

St. Louis ranked as the most dangerous city in the U.S. Fort Lauderdale placed second on the list, followed by San Bernadino, Calif.

Detroit came in fourth, followed by Baton Rouge at #5.

The survey also ranked the nation’s safest cities with Columbia, Maryland, taking the crown.
