The New Orleans Police Department says it discovered a disturbing case of animal abuse while serving a warrant on an unrelated investigation.
While executing a search warrant in the 7800 block of Sail St. in the Little Woods neighborhood, officers came across a malnourished dog on the property.
"The dog appeared severely malnourished, and there was no dog food on the property," said police. "Also, the dog did not have access to fresh water and relied on runoff from a nearby gutter drain to survive."
Further search revealed a locked dog kennel which contained the skeletal remains of a second dog. LSPCA agents called to the scene determined the dead dog was likely a puppy.
The starving dog is now in the care of the LSPCA.
Police booked 32-year-old David Jackson on felony animal cruelty charges.
