The body of a 12-year-old boy New Orleans East boy who went missing last week has been found in a lagoon near his home.
New Orleans police confirmed Tuesday morning that they found the body of Bryan Vasquez, 12. According to New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, members of the Cajun Navy found the body by using a drone. The body, Kirkpatrick said, was about 200 yards in the marsh.
Kirkpatrick said she spoke with Vasquez's mother to "extend our apologies and our condolences." Kirkpatrick said the case is now being treated as a death investigation. Kirkpatrick says foul play has not been ruled out.
Kirkpatrick adds that the NOPD has opened an internal investigation to find out why there was a five-hour delay in her department's response to the initial call reporting Vazquez as missing. She urged patience from the public while her investigators gather the facts and context of the situation.
