The search for a new chief of New Orleans Police is about to enter a new phase. The window to submit applications closes Friday.

"I'm excited about the progress that we're making," said New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Cantrell said she will be releasing more information about how the chief search is going, but would not say how many applications have come in so far.

"What I can say is that things are moving steady," she said. "We are getting responses in."

The mayor did say that Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork submitted her application.

"She has submitted all of her documentation, as well, relative to being a qualified candidate to continue to serve in this capacity," Cantrell said.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police has been running the search. Whoever the mayor appoints will have to be approved by the New Orleans City Council.
