The New Orleans Police Department's top brass is working on moving out of the department's long-time headquarters at S. Broad and Gravier streets, our partners at NOLA.com report.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick has been eyeing 48,000 square feet on two floors of the DXC building (formerly Freeport-McMoRan headquarters) on Poydras St. across from the Superdome.
The Mid City building has become a maintenance nightmare for NOPD.
The facily has long dealt with a leaking roof and elevator issues. An A/C failure during last summer's heat wave made working in the five story building almost unbearable.
The lease in the CBD would reportedly cost $7.7 million over the next decade. Particulars will be discussed in upcoming New Orleans City Council hearings.
