A woman jumps on the hood of her own car as a carjacker attempted to drive off in her car according to news reports.
It happened Sunday, at about 12:21 p.m. at the intersection of Carondelet and Gravier Streets.
According to an NOPD report, a woman was standing outside of her running car when the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Austin Levalley, allegedly pushed the woman down and got into her vehicle in an attempt to steal it.
Police say as Levalley attempted to drive away, the victim attempted to stop Levalley by reportedly climbed upon the hood of her car in a desperate attempt to stop the would-be car thief from driving away. Police say Levalley drove with the woman on the hood for three blocks and swerved to try to throw the woman off.
NOPD officers in the area saw the crime as it was happening and apprehended Levalley after he bailed on the car and after a brief foot chase with police.
