New Orleans Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in the 1400 block of Harrison Ave.
Police say shortly before 7 a.m. Friday, officers were sent to investigate a call of a man shot in that location.
"Just before 7:00 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to the location for a reported shooting and located an adult male on scene," said police in a statement. "The subject was subsequently declared deceased on scene by medical personnel."
WWL-TV reports police say the deceased was apparently trying to break into the home, and a man inside the home acted in self-defense.
Police say the resident is cooperating with investigators.
Police say anyone who has information should call NOPD Homicide at (504) 658-5300, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP). Tips can also be submitted online via the Crimestoppers web site.
