The New Orleans Police Department investigates after a woman attending a Metairie parade reportedly gets into an Uber and then ends up at the hospital where she later dies.
A social media post claims a 21-year-old woman from South Carolina got into an Uber about 1:00 a.m. Friday night after attending parades in Metairie. She was to be driven to a location in New Orleans East. The post then claims the Uber driver later dropped the woman off at University Medical Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead about 6:00 a.m.
Now, NOPD detectives are investigating the mysterious death. Authorities could not confirm how the woman died nor if the Uber driver was the one who brought her to the hospital.
“NOPD is investigating an unclassified death that occurred this morning shortly before 7:00 A.M., at a local hospital. According to investigators, Seventh District officers responded to a call of a woman who was transported to the hospital via private conveyance. Upon her arrival to the hospital Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced the woman dead,” said NOPD Officer Reese Harper.
According to Nola.com, the woman, Ciaya Jordan Whetstone, is a University of New Orleans student who went out with friends Friday night to catch parades in Metairie. Hours later she was dropped off at the hospital where she later died.
