The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting in Central City that left a man dead and injured another.

It happened around 9 p.m. in the 2700 block of Dryades Street, between 4th Street and Washington Avenue.


"Upon arrival, officers learned that two adult male gunshot wound victims arriving at a local hospital via separate private conveyances. One of the victims was later pronounced deceased," police said in a statement.

"Through investigation, it was later learned that the victims were both at a gathering in the 2700 block of Dryades Street when gunshots were allegedly fired by an unknown perpetrator. Both victims were reportedly struck by the gunfire."
