A knife-wielding man is dead after New Orleans Police Department investigators say a security guard shot that man after he stabbed a woman in a wheelchair.

An NOPD spokesperson says they received a call just before 4 p.m. Sunday about an incident on Elysian Fields Avenue near St. Claude Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found the man dead at the scene. They also found the wheelchair-bound woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

According to the NOPD spokesperson, witnesses told investigators that the knife-wielding man stabbed the woman unprovoked. The spokesperson says the security guard, who was working at a nearby business, saw the attack and shot the assailant once.

The security guard was detained for questioning, but he has since been released.

The case remains under investigation. If you know anything about this incident, call the NOPD at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
