The New Orleans Police recruit detained by federal immigration agents is a Cameroon national who has been living in the U.S. since 2015, according to our partners at NOLA.com.
Larry Temah entered the U.S. with a temporary visa. He applied for a green card after marrying a U.S. citizen and was given provisional approval to remain in the country.
That approval ended when his marriage ended in 2022, according to the report.
NOPD officials say Temah passed all background checks when he applied for the police academy in 2025, including E-Verify, a system that screens job applicants for legal status.
