New Orleans police are looking for three people they say may have knowledge of or may have participated in the deadly carjacking of a Boutte Uber driver in the French Quarter on Thursday night.

Relatives identified the driver as Miguel Stemley. According to his wife, Stemley was in the middle of a ride during which he was supposed to drop someone off on Burgundy Street. Police say during that ride, someone tried to carjack Stemley. A fight ensued, leading to a crash at the corner of Bienville and Burgundy just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

During the fight, Stemley became trapped under the car after it rolled on top of him. Stemley's wife told WWL-TV that the car broke Stemley's neck and arm. Stemley later died at a hospital.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told WWL's Scoot on the Air on Friday that the incident was caught on surveillance cameras and that she was confident that her officers would make arrests in the case. Kirkpatrick, who watched the surveillance video, described the crime as "flat out murder."

About three hours after Kirkpatrick made those remarks, the NOPD released the surveillance photos, showing three Black men dresed in mostly black clothing, near the scene of the crime shortly after it happeend.

"Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed the three pictured subjects as persons of interest in this case," authorities said in a news release. "These subjects are not currently wanted on criminal charges. However, detectives feel they may have knowledge of information vital to the investigation and wish to interview them."
