For fourteen years, the New Orleans Crime Coalition has surveyed the public on how satisfied they are with the New Orleans Police Department. Their most recent poll finds the lowest satisfaction level in the history of their survey.
The NOPD's satisfaction among 800 residents surveyed between May 30 and June 6 dropped to 31 percent. Last year's survey had the satisfaction rating at 33 percent.
From 2012 through 2014, and from 2016 through 2021, the NOPD had satisfaction ratings of 50 percent or better. In the last two years, it has dropped to one-third or less.
Only nine percent of those polled think the NOPD is doing a better job than they were a year ago, 38 percent say worse, and 50 percent say it's about the same.
Seventy-one percent of people surveyed say crime in New Orleans has gotten worse than it was last year. Only four percent said it is better, with 24 percent saying crime is just as bad now as it was a year ago.
Black residents are more satisfied with the NOPD than white residents (34% vs. 25%). Women are more satisfied than men (36% vs. 26%).
