The standoff between New Orleans Police and a man who holed himself inside a St. Claude home is now over.
That standoff in the 1800 block of Desire Street ended around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, more than 14 hours after it began.
"Shortly before 7:00 p.m. citizens notified NOPD of an adult male known to have mental problems who had barricaded himself inside his residence and that he was armed with a handgun," NOPD Sgt. Barry Fletcher told the media.
Fletcher says there was some gunfire about three hours into the standoff.
"The barricaded subject reportedly fired two shots shortly before 10:00 p.m. but it is unclear what he was shooting at. and no injuries are reported."
Fletcher said the suspect was taken into custody "without further incident."
