A would-be carjacker will be booked into jail after he's released from the hospital for a gunshot wound he suffered at the hands of his intended victim.
The attempted carjacking happened around 2 a.m. on Chef Menteur Highway near Wilson Avenue.
According to a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, Johnanthan Edwards tried to force the victim from his car and steal the vehicle. The victim then shot Edwards once and called authorities to the scene. Edwards, 23, remains in the hospital. Police did not disclose his condition.
Once Edwards is discharged from the hospital, he'll be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on an attempted first-degree robbery charge.
Police say the victim is cooperating with the investigation and is not facing charges.
