NOPD's Woodfork marks 100 days as interim chief

Interim New Orleans Police Superintendent Michelle Woodfork this afternoon spoke about her first 100 days on the job, and mapped out plans moving forward.

"On behalf of the men and women of the NOPD, I am proud to say that we are seeing progress, and are motivated and determined to continue on this path," said Woodfork. "Overall, violent crime has decreased twenty percent for 2023, compared to the same period for 2022."

Woodfork says compared to the same period in 2022, so far this year crime is down, including a 12 percent decrease in homicide, an 11 percent decrease in non-fatal shootings, a 28 percent drop in armed robbery, and a 55 percent decrease in carjackings.

Woodfork also discussed recruiting, and efforts to keep officers on the force from leaving for work in other departments, or other careers.

"Recruitment is one of our highest priorities," said Woodfork. "I have assigned new leadership in recruitment to re-energize our recruitment efforts, and in a few weeks since assignment, we are seeing more traction in conversions of applicants to test-takers."

When asked about the national search for a new superintendent, Woodfork said she considered her time as interim chief to be her audition for the job on a permanent basis.
