Police are releasing details of a drug bust on the Northshore after finding hidden pills.
"Approximately 1,000 fentanyl pills were located after St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies stopped a stolen vehicle near Abita Springs over the weekend," STPSO posted.
It happened Sunday evening, when police observed a vehicle which had been reported stolen out of Pearl River County, Mississippi.
"Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a 2006 Cadillac CTS. The driver was identified as James Spike, and his passenger was identified as Emelda Matthews. Both are residents of Washington Parish. Inside the vehicle, deputies located a brake cleaner aluminum container with a false bottom."
The post says the pills were hidden inside the can.
“Fentanyl is a very dangerous drug, and it is no secret that it is in our community,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Thanks to some alert deputies and proactive policing, a large quantity of this deadly drug was taken off our streets and a stolen vehicle was recovered.”
