Cops say a 15-year-old student from the Covington area faces charges after his arrest today.
"He made statements on social media about planning to bring a gun to school," St. Tammany Parish Lieutenant Suzanne Carboni said.
She says the threat was issued via Instagram.
"The student sent messages... stating that he was going to bring a gun to school on Monday and shoot a subject who was spreading rumors about him."
Carboni says the teen later told deputies that he did not have a gun, nor did he have access to one.
"The student was arrested for Terrorizing, and after it was determined there were no firearms at his residence."
Authorities released the teen to a parent on a custodial agreement to appear in court.
“We have made it very clear that threats like this will be taken seriously,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We will continue to work with our schools and investigate any and all threats made at our schools or to the students and faculty who attend them. Parents, please talk to your children and explain to them the seriousness of making statements like this, even if they have no intentions on following through with them.”
