The Louisiana Supreme Court today ruled Ochsner Health has the right to terminate the employment of any worker who refuses to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Ochsner issued the vaccine mandate for its employees not long after the FDA granted full authorization to Pfizer for its coronavirus vaccine. Workers could either get the two shots or look for a new job. A group of employees sued, and a state court of appeal sided with them.
But in Ochsner's appeal to the Louisiana Supreme Court, justices reversed the appellate decision.
"No exception to this state’s at-will employment doctrine applies in this matter," the ruling concluded. "This court finds Employer is entitled to terminate Employees for failure to comply with the vaccine mandate."
