It's reporting day for New Orleans Saints veterans, joining the rookies for training camp in Irvine, California.
The bad news for the Who Dat Nation is that Vegas oddsmakers and the betting public don't expect much from the Black & Gold this season. The good news is that anyone betting the Saints could really clean up if the team defies the odds.
A lot of oddsmakers expect Atlanta to win the NFC South, with last year's champ, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coming in second... leaving the Saints hoping for an outside chance at a wildcard playoff bid.
Professional oddsmaker Raphael Esparza says the Saints, at +340 to +425, might be an advantageous pick.
"That's a great value," he said. "The higher you can get on the Saints, I highly recommend."
The Saints will be debuting a new offense under coordinator Klint Kubiak.
"It can't go anything but upwards," Esparza said, referencing the Saints pedestrian offensive output of 2023. "I would have to say on that one, I mean they struggled last year."
As for the rest of the league, Esparza says he likes the Eagles for the Super Bowl from the NFC, or possibly the 49ers, and from the AFC, of course it's Kansas City:
"As long as Patrick Mahomes puts a helmet on, he's always going to get a play in," he said.
